Tour Leg Too Long For Aircraft

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I am trying to complete the last leg of the MLB AL Tour which is KSEA-KDCA. The aircraft I chose for the tour, from the list of permitted aircraft, is the MaddogX. The problem lies in the fact that this variant of the MD-80, the MD-82, does not have the auxiliary fuel tanks that are available to later versions like the MD-88. There has been exactly one day since I started the tour that the winds aloft have been favorable so that I could do this trip and I was not able to dedicate the time to it.

So my question is how do I handle this and still be in accordance with our SOP? Is there a way to allow for a fuel stop on the leg or do I need to wait for that rare day that the winds aloft are cooperative?

Range for the MD-88 should be 2933nm and that flight leg is 2450nm.  I will tell you to fly it, and if needed, I will allow you to add fuel if you see you are not going to make it.  If that is the case, put a note in the remarks to ask Mark about refuel.  I think you should make it.  Pack lightly!

Hi Matt,

Since this leg is within the range of your aircraft, you would be required to complete it in one flight.  However, this is a special case, because it is so close to the upper bound of the aircraft's range.

As Mark said, in-air refueling is therefore permissible.  Make a note about it, and I'll make sure it gets approved, provided there are no other issues.
